Ordinary Days

I feel that everyday should be a day when, combined with all the ordinary, mundane tasks we should take time to do something out of the ordinary.  It has to be something that makes us or someone else happy.  Or forces us to take a step back and re-prioritize.  Or to look at the big picture and realize what's really important.  To stop sweating the small stuff and start enjoying the minute stuff.  Today I spoke to someone who has been very helpful and kind to me ever since the loss of my husband and she informed me that her dad had just passed away.  I had a lot of little things to take care of but before I proceeded to do what I had originally planned, I got on the phone and ordered her a big bouquet of flowers with an inspirational note to cheer up her day. And do you know what? My day was brighter as well because I knew how much it would mean to her knowing how much someone else cared.  The other stuff no longer seems so important to me.  It will get done, as it always does, if not today, then tomorrow.  But when we die, nobody is going to remember how clean our house was or how organized we were in completing our list of tasks. What they will remember is how we were able to make them feel while we were around.

  1. How true! It's so easy to toil away at the little things in life and forget the things that are more important. Your friend must have felt good receiving those flowers, knowing that a friend was thinking about her.
